The sacrament of Confirmation is prepared for in the parish community as directed by the bishop.
The bishop comes to each parish for this sacrament every three years. Additionally special permission is given for the parish priest to confirm at Pentecost.
At Baptism we became members of God’s family, sons and daughters of the Father, brothers and sisters of Christ, temples of the Holy Spirit. At Confirmation we take on new responsibilities in the Body of Christ, which is the Church.
Confirmation is beginning. In the sacrament we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the grace Our Lord Jesus Christ won for us on the Cross, the help we need to live our lives as adult Christians.
At what age can I be confirmed?
The Parish invites students registered in the Parish in Year 10 to enrol for Confirmation along with any other member of the Parish who has not been confirmed and is over age of 15.
How do I enrol on the Programme?
Notice is published in the newsletter early in November or you can contact either Trish Cobby or Fr David Clemens for more details.
There will be a meeting of all prospective candidates in early December. This meeting will answer any questions you may have in helping you decide to be confirmed.
How long is the Programme?
The Programme consists of 9 sessions, on a Sunday morning from 11.45 to 13.00, over a period of five months, starting in January and ending on Pentecost Sunday. There will be a day’s retreat and we prepare for the sacrament by going to Confession.
What do I have to do?
The Confirmation service will this year be held at Pentecost – 27th May 2012 (this may change – subject to the Bishop).
Meeting of Enrolment – 11th December 2012, the Parish Hall at 11.45.
